Developmental Dyslexia? What Can You Do?

July 3rd, 2009

I had a call from a concerned parent a few days ago – Angie – her son was diagnosed with developmental dyslexia. She was wondering what she could do to help her son. After directing her to some information I realized many of you would also like access to the information. So here is is. Here are some links to short videos you may find interesting. I know the first one is titled adults with dyslexia, but I do make an important point in the video regarding the importance of addressing the underlying cause of the reading problem.

You mentioned that your son was diagnosed with dyslexia. Did the university tell you what the underlying cause of his dyslexia is? It is important to know what the underlying cause is because you address the problems differently according to the causes. Otherwise you don’t end up making much progress and he will just get frustrated because he can’t see any progress himself.

The first webinar I did I covered the different areas that are involved with learning briefly. There are 9 areas of vision perception, 9 of auditory perception, and 9 of tactile/kinesthetic perception that affect learning.  I will go into greater depth into each of those in webinars at a later date. Here is the link to the first two webinars: Searching for answers to why your child struggles in school and Searching for answers to why your child struggles with writing.
I know the page just talks about the first webinar, but it will actually end up giving you access to both of the webinars.
